TAN Registration
TAN stands for Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number.
It is a 10-digit alphanumeric number issued by the Income Tax Department (ITD) in India to individuals or entities responsible for deducting or collecting tax at source (TDS or TCS). It is mandatory to quote the TAN in all TDS/TCS returns, payment challans, certificates, and other related documents.
Every person or entity responsible for deducting TDS or collecting TCS is required to obtain a TAN. This includes:
- Employers making salary payments.
- Banks paying interest.
- Companies making payments to contractors, professionals, etc.
- Government entities.
- Sellers collecting TCS on specified goods.
